EU - Lived experience just got a shoutout in the European Parliament. At last week's SANT Hearing on brain health, Dr. Orla Galvin BSc PhD (EFNA) made it clear: for a European Strategy on neurological conditions to actually work, it must include the insights and expertise of people living with those conditions. Not as an afterthought. As equal partners - in prevention, care, research, and policymaking. With over 1 in 3 Europeans living with a brain condition, and an economic burden of up to €1.3 trillion annually, the stakes couldn't be higher. The science is advancing. Gene therapy, neurotechnology, early intervention - the tools are coming. But tools without the people they're meant to serve at the table? That's a strategy with a gap in it. This is exactly why lived experience expertise matters - not just in clinical settings, but at the policy level, where the decisions that shape care systems are made. Encouraged to see this language entering the European Parliament. Now let's make sure it translates into structure, not just sentiment. 👇 What would it take for lived experience to be genuinely embedded in EU brain health policy?
