Canada - Promoting Mental Health and Wellness from Coast to Coast to Coast The Governor General’s Mental Health Learning and Listening Tour offers a powerful spotlight on the people, programs, and communities shaping mental health from lived, living, and learned experience across Canada. What stands out most is the recognition that peer support and experiential expertise are not “add-ons” — they are blueprints for more human, accessible, and culturally grounded systems of care. Across four stops and one national symposium, voices from rural, remote, and northern communities echoed the same truth: support built on authenticity, empathy, and trust can transform both people and systems. Lived experience is not secondary knowledge — it’s essential evidence. From peer-led organizations like Lifewise and DUDES Club Society to community-rooted leaders like Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre and Graffiti Art Programming, the report highlights how connection, culture, and community resilience drive real change—especially when lived expertise is recognized, resourced, and respected. The report concludes with a call to action: to continue listening, valuing, and co-creating with those who know the system from the inside out. Because every story shared builds not just understanding — but infrastructure for healing.
