USA - Nebraska Peer Support Protection for First Responders, Breaking barriers to mental health support for those who protect us. Nebraska lawmakers are considering groundbreaking legislation (LB 755, LB 804, and LB 816) that would protect peer support conversations among first responders from being used in court or disciplinary proceedings. 🧠 Why this matters Police officers and firefighters face extraordinary stressors that lead to high rates of burnout, substance abuse, and suicide. Yet many hesitate to seek help due to concerns about confidentiality. As Lincoln PD Captain Max Hubka, MPLA testified, these protections would provide "psychological safety" and encourage more first responders to participate in peer support programs. Omaha Fire Captain Matt Tennant captured it perfectly: "We've walked in their shoes. We know what they struggle with.
