Global - A milestone for global health and mental well-being 🌍💚 This week, the UN General Assembly adopted its first-ever integrated political declaration addressing both noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health, a powerful signal that the world now recognizes how deeply these issues are connected. 🧠 By 2030, the declaration aims for: ✨ 150 million fewer tobacco users ✨ 150 million more people with hypertension under control ✨ 150 million more people with access to mental health care But beyond numbers, what stands out is the explicit call for “whole-of-society” approache, engaging civil society, youth, disability advocates, and people with lived experience. As an experience expert, I see this as a turning point: policymakers are realizing that meaningful change in mental health doesn’t come from systems alone, but from genuine partnerships with those who have walked the path of experience. This declaration integrates lessons from COVID-19, tackles health inequities, and reinforces that mental health and NCDs are not just health issues, they are social, economic, and justice issues. Let’s make sure lived experience remains at the center of these commitments, from local communities to global action.
