Virginia offers the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification through the Virginia Certification Board (VCB) for individuals with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery. The 72-hour DBHDS training is available virtually and in-person. Certification also requires 500 hours of peer support experience and passing an IC&RC exam ($175 fee). Continuing education: 20 hours every 2 years. Services by Registered Peer Recovery Specialists (RPRS) are Medicaid reimbursable. Statewide org: VOCAL Virginia (vocalvirginia.org).
