The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) program in Massachusetts is funded by the Massachusetts Dept. of Mental Health and administered by Kiva Centers (Transformation Center) - the sole approved vendor. Requirements: 18+, living or working in Massachusetts, high school diploma/GED, lived experience with mental health/emotional health/trauma, actively working on recovery for 1+ year. Training is 60 hours (online virtual), completely free. Trainings held 8x/year. Specializations: Peer Recovery Coach (substance addiction), Certified Older Adult Peer Specialist (50+), Forensic Peer Specialist. Medicaid reimbursable (waiver 1115 MA Adult Supports). Approximately 4,000 peer specialists in Massachusetts (2024).
