The Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) program in Maine is administered by the Maine Dept. of Health and Human Services. Requirements: 18+, lived experience with mental health challenges. Training is free: 8-10 day core classroom training plus 6-week follow-up workbook for provisional certification, then 1 year of fieldwork (4 co-reflections/year, 2 CE courses/year, 72 hours IPS practice) for full certification. Trainings held 3x/year (Spring, Summer, Fall). Continuing education: same requirements annually plus biennial Fidelity Review. Services are Medicaid reimbursable. Statewide organization: Commonspace (www.commonspacemaine.org). Approximately 500 peer specialists in Maine (2024).
