Personal Eligibility Requirements: - Minimum age: 18 years - High school diploma or GED - Direct personal lived experience with mental illness and/or addiction in recovery (family/support roles do not qualify) - Willingness to self-disclose lived experience for education, role modeling, and providing hope Professional Eligibility: - At least 2 months of experience working or volunteering under supervision in a peer role Certification Requirements: - 46 hours of education/training in IC&RC domains: 10 hours: Advocacy 10 hours: Mentoring & Education 10 hours: Recovery/Wellness Support 16 hours: Ethical Responsibility - 500 hours of paid or volunteer peer recovery specialist work experience - Current volunteer/job description signed by applicant and supervisor - Statement of Lived Experience: 1,000-word essay on personal recovery - 25 hours of on-the-job supervision - Pass the IC&RC Peer Recovery Specialist (PR) Examination Costs: Application fee waived (SAMHSA funding, effective May 1, 2023). Recertification fees also waived (SAMHSA). Exam fee may apply for rescheduling. Background Check: Not required by the certification board. Continuing Education: 20 hours per renewal period, including 6 hours of ethics training. Supervisor Certification: Delaware Certification Board offers a Certified Supervisor of Peer Specialists credential (two pathways - formal education or experienced CPRS route).
