Washington State offers the Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) certification through the Health Care Authority (HCA). Training includes a 10-12 hour online prerequisite followed by a 5-day (36-40 hour) HCA-approved in-person training. Training is free (state-sponsored), including materials, meals, and lodging for statewide trainings. Applicants must have lived experience with mental health or substance use, be 18+, and demonstrate reading/writing comprehension. CPC services are Medicaid reimbursable.
