The West Virginia Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) Certification is offered through the West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction & Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP). Requirements include: a high school diploma or GED, 46 clock hours of education specific to domains, 500 hours of volunteer or paid experience in peer support domains, and fingerprint-based background check. Training is available in-person, online, or hybrid format. Recertification is required every 2 years with 20 hours of continuing education, including 6 hours of NAADAC/NCC AP NCPRSS-specific ethics. Medicaid reimbursable if enrolled with WV Medicaid and working for an LBHC or CBHC.
